Achillion Palace The Achillion Palace is located in the village of Gastouri and was built in 1890 for the Empress of Austria: Elizabeth. This empress is often referred to as ‘Sissy’. She used the palace as her summer retreat and later sold it to Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany. The Palace overlooks the sea and Corfu town, providing wonderful views so don’t forget to bring a camera. Corfu Town Corfu Town is the main town of Corfu and has seen influences of the British, the Normans, the French, the Greek and the Romans, which makes the town architecturally attractive. Corfu Town also reminds visitors of Italy thanks to its Venetian influences. The town offers a mix of old tavernas, new discos and cafes, dance clubs and shops. It also has a beautiful harbor. Corfu Town is known as well for its ‘Spianada’, a square said to be the most beautiful one of all the Greek islands combined. Other interesting sights in Corfu Town include Agios Spirodonos (a church from the 16th century), the Museum of Asian Art, Analipsis (the peninsula where the old Corfu originated) and the old fort. Aqualand Corfu Aqualand Corfu is the third biggest water amusement park of Europe and the biggest of Greece. It’s situated in the village Agios Ioannis and a perfect option for those traveling with children. Corfu’s BeachesCorfu is said to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Choose for a quiet or sandy beach and enjoy the sun! For those who want to go off the beaten track and enjoy the sun on a quiet beach like Avlaki or Agnos.Avlaki is a long beautiful bay with clear sea, a few villas and just two cafes. Althouhg it is far from touristic, locals tend to come here on Sundays. Agnos is a small bay located just outside of the village Roda. Glyfada, a stunning sandy beach offers soft, golden sand and has sun beds (for rent), showers, toilets, changing rooms and a first-aid center. Chalikounas is another sandy beach. It is actually a long dune which divides Lake Korrision and the open sea. Wind surfers and kite surfers will love it here because of the strong winds. From historic buildings to sandy beaches and amusement parks; Corfu has it all. Just don't forget to pack sunscreen when heading over to this beautiful Greek island as summers tend to get hot.
